Community guidelines

GlowHub works because people ask real questions and get honest answers. These rules exist to protect that, and they apply to everyone — new members, verified Beauty Pros and our own team.

Effective 20 July 2026. Report anything that breaks these rules in the app, or email support@glowhub.ng.

01The short version

Many members come to GlowHub to ask about things they find embarrassing — acne that will not clear, hair loss, dark spots, skin they have been told to be ashamed of. Some post anonymously for exactly that reason.

Answer the person you would want answering you. Be honest, be specific, and do not make anyone regret asking. That is the whole culture, and most of the rules below are just that idea written out.

Zero tolerance. GlowHub has no tolerance for objectionable content or abusive members. Content that breaks the rules below is removed, and the account responsible is suspended or permanently closed. GlowHub is an 18+ platform.

02What is not allowed

Posting any of the following will get the content removed, and may cost you your account.

Harassment and abuse

  • Insults, mockery or pile-ons directed at a member, including about their appearance
  • Threats of violence, or wishing harm on anyone
  • Bullying someone for asking a basic question
  • Contacting a member after they have asked you to stop

Hate and discrimination

  • Attacks based on ethnicity, tribe, religion, nationality, disability, gender, sexuality or body type
  • Colourism, including promoting skin bleaching as a beauty standard or shaming darker skin
  • Slurs of any kind, including ones you consider casual

Sexual content and nudity

  • Pornographic or sexually explicit images or text
  • Nudity, other than clinical images clearly posted for a legitimate skin concern
  • Sexual comments about another member, or unsolicited sexual messages
  • Any sexual content involving minors. This is reported to the authorities immediately and results in a permanent ban with no appeal.

Dangerous and illegal content

  • Recommending prescription medication for someone else to take
  • Promoting skin-lightening products containing mercury, hydroquinone above legal limits, or other banned ingredients
  • Encouraging self-harm, disordered eating, or extreme restriction as a beauty method
  • Selling counterfeit, expired, unregistered or illegally imported cosmetics
  • Anything else that breaks Nigerian law

Spam and dishonesty

  • Repetitive promotional posts, referral links or unsolicited advertising
  • Undisclosed paid promotion — if a brand paid you, say so in the post
  • Impersonating another person, a brand, a dermatologist or GlowHub staff
  • Fake reviews, vote manipulation, multiple accounts, or any scheme to farm GlowPoints
  • Scams, including advance-fee requests and fake product sales

Privacy violations

  • Posting anyone's phone number, address, workplace or private messages without their consent
  • Sharing photos of a person who did not agree to be posted
  • Attempting to identify or expose someone who posted anonymously

03Health advice: where the line is

GlowHub is a community, not a clinic. Members and Beauty Pros share experience and product knowledge — that is genuinely useful, and it is not a diagnosis.

Nothing on GlowHub is medical advice. If you have a persistent, painful, spreading or worsening skin or hair condition, see a licensed dermatologist or doctor. Do not delay treatment because of something you read here.

Fine to post: what worked for you, ingredients you react to, a routine you follow, a product you rate, general information about how an ingredient behaves.

Not fine to post: telling someone they definitely have a specific medical condition, telling them what prescription drug to take or what dose, telling them to stop treatment a doctor gave them, or presenting yourself as a medical professional when you are not.

04How to report content

Every question, answer and comment in GlowHub can be reported, and so can every member profile.

  1. Tap the menu — the three dots in the top right of any post, answer or profile.
  2. Choose Report.
  3. Pick a reason — harassment, hate speech, sexual content, dangerous advice, spam, impersonation, privacy, or other.
  4. Add detail if you want to. Optional, but it helps us act faster.
  5. Submit. The report is anonymous. The person you reported is never told who reported them.

You can also email support@glowhub.ng with a link or screenshot, which is the right route for anything urgent or serious.

We review every report within 24 hours and remove content that breaks these guidelines. Reports involving a threat to someone's safety or any content involving a minor are handled immediately, ahead of everything else.

05How to block someone

You do not need our permission or a reason to block a member.

  1. Tap their name or profile photo on any post or answer.
  2. Tap the menu in the top right of their profile.
  3. Choose Block.

Once blocked, their questions and answers disappear from your feed, they cannot reply to your posts or contact you, and they are not told that you blocked them. You can unblock anyone later in Settings → Privacy → Blocked members.

06How we moderate

  • Automatic filtering. Posts pass through a filter that catches slurs, sexual content and known spam patterns before they are published. Flagged content is held for human review.
  • Human review. Our moderation team reviews every reported item within 24 hours, and works through a queue of automatically flagged content daily.
  • Proactive checks. New accounts, high-volume posters and posts with unusual point activity get additional review.
  • Verified Beauty Pros are checked against professional credentials before receiving the Pro badge, and lose it if they give unsafe advice.

Moderators remove content that breaks these guidelines regardless of who posted it, including popular members and our own staff.

We take context into account. Someone who misunderstood a rule is treated differently from someone deliberately harming another member.

08If you think we got it wrong

Email support@glowhub.ng with the subject Moderation appeal, and include your username and what was removed. A different person from the one who made the original decision reviews it, and we reply within 5 working days.

Appeals are not available for bans involving content that sexualises minors or credible threats of violence.

09Additional rules for Beauty Pros

The Pro badge signals that someone has professional training. Members trust it, so it carries extra obligations:

  • Represent your qualifications accurately, and never claim to be a medical doctor unless you are one
  • Disclose any brand you are paid by, work for, or have a stake in, on every post where it is relevant
  • Refer members to a doctor when a question is beyond your scope, rather than guessing
  • Do not use GlowHub primarily as a channel to sell your own products or services

Losing the Pro badge is permanent for serious breaches.
